About Us

OxFirst Club is an international platform dedicated to dialogue on the governance of innovation.

It brings together judges, policymakers, industry leaders, practitioners and scholars to exchange perspectives on intellectual property, competition law and technology policy — areas that increasingly shape the global economy.

As technological progress accelerates while legal frameworks remain fragmented across jurisdictions, decisions taken in one court, authority or institution can have consequences far beyond national borders.

OxFirst Club provides a space where these developments can be discussed openly and thoughtfully among those directly involved in shaping them.

Guiding Principles

OxFirst Club is guided by three core principles.

Academic independence

Ensuring balanced discussion and intellectual integrity.

Respect for judicial neutrality

Maintaining an environment appropriate for judicial participation.

Balanced representation

Bringing together perspectives from courts, regulators, industry and academia.

Context

Cross Border Patent enforcement has become one of the defining features of the modern innovation economy.

Litigation increasingly unfolds simultaneously across multiple jurisdictions. Courts influence market structures, competition policy intersects with technology licensing, and national legal systems interact in increasingly complex ways.

Against this backdrop, the IP & Competition Forum provides a platform for dialogue among the institutions and professionals shaping the global governance of innovation.

OxFirst Expert Groups & Members’ Club

The year-round bridge between Oxford and Munich.

The OxFirst Expert Group provides the working structure between the Oxford and Munich Fora. They bring together selected participants from the judiciary, industry, private practice, economics, academia and policy to examine the issues shaping patent enforcement, licensing, competition policy and innovation governance.

The Expert Groups are designed to be focused, practical and light-touch. Participation will primarily take place online through working discussions, with opportunities to contribute to short notes, policy reflections, webinars, OxFirst Club blog articles and conference-linked publications.
